The term Bento finds it’s origin from Japanese culture where in means home packed meal. However, bentos form an integral part of Japanese food culture, which cannot be simply traced from a packed meal. The word bento (弁当), imported from Chinese, means the “useful thing”, “convenient” and has a double meaning, standing for both the container and the content.
Indeed, Bento Lunch Box is definitely useful and convenient.
Why we should bring our own reusable container?
Plastic pollution has become the biggest environmental crisis of our times as plastic does not go away. We recycle and make it into another form of plastic but at the same time we do not recycle properly (due to quite a few factors) and majority ends up in landfill or our waterways, on top of it we are making enormous amount of plastic every day.
According to National Geographic, every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. That’s the equivalent of setting five garbage bags full of trash on every foot of coastline around the world.
Plastic breaks down into microplastics and now traces of microplastics have been found in every corner of the earth, water, plant, animals and us too. Millions of animals are killed by plastics every year, from birds to fish to other marine organisms. Nearly 700 species, including endangered ones, are known to have been affected by plastics. Nearly every species of seabird eats plastics.
According to a recent research published in Centre for International Environmental Law (CIEL), at every stage of its lifecycle, plastic poses distinct risks to human health, arising from both exposure to plastic particles themselves and associated chemicals. The majority of people worldwide are exposed at multiple stages of this lifecycle.
The way to minimise plastic in our lives is by switching to quality reusables that no not leave negative impact on our own health nor damage the environment. It’s important that these quality reusables last a long time as lot of resources go into the making of any product.
